Why are LED lights better than standard halogen lighting?
Halogen lights produce far less light and draw more power than the modern LED lights. LED can be used for close-range and long-range applications. LED lights are the most versatile and draw the least amount of power per light. so its easy to see why they are currently the most popular light design with off-road enthusiast. LED lights are tough and can withstand the harsh use off-road.
What is the difference between a spot beam, and flood beam?
A spot beam is a focused narrow light beam, sometimes called a pencil beam because of the shape of the light produced. Spot beams are used to reach way out into the dark. They are ideal for high-speed off-road applications where every extra foot of visibility counts. Flood beam lights have fluted lenses and/or fluted reflectors that disperse the light. They're used for illuminating the immediate are around the vehicle, making them great for slow-speed technical trails, or as rock lights, camp lights, work lights, and reverse lights.
Is lumen output important?
A lumen is a unit of measurement for emitted light. If you're looking for the brightest lights of a given style or size, you can use lumens to compare them. More lumens means more light, but we wouldn't buy a light on lumen output alone. Matching the right beam pattern to your use is just as important. The quality of light should be a deciding factor. Some cheap lights can be bright, but produce a useless beam pattern.
What is color temperature?
Color temperature relates to the warmth or coolness of a light. It is measured in kelvin. The lower the kelvin number, the warmer (more yellow) the light. Lights with cooler temperatures have higher kelvin numbers and emit a white light. The human eyes sees best in full natural sunlight, which is about 6000 kelvin. Therefore, off-road lights producing a color temperature of 6000 kelvins will produce the best nighttime visibility and cause less driver fatigue. Halogens produce a very yellow beam while LEDS will produce a crisper, white light.
Why not buy Amazon and Ebay lights?
Inexpensive lighting from Amazon and Ebay have inadequate mounting brackets for off-road use, and are made with poor quality materials that generally wont hold up in the elements. Coating and plastics will fade and lenses may yellow from sun exposure. These lights usually have less precise reflectors, which will provide less light were you want it. Lower quality LEDS and bulbs will not be as bright or last as long as our quality components.
